@bonniedilber: Lifestyle creep and making tradeoffs are a part of life at almost any income level. But I'd rather be navigating the challenges associated with being a high earner than those associated with poverty. #careertok #PersonalFinance #henry #lifestylecreep #salary

There really ARE a shocking amount of people that don’t understand marginal tax rates. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say they think a bonus or promotion would be bad for them because it would “put them in a higher tax bracket”

no, they're not one of the wealthiest people in this country. zero of them are actually making that kind of money

To be honest, it’s where you live and if you have children. Of course there are always people worse off. But it is also true that when you live in a state like NY, housing and property tax, insurance, etc, makes a higher salary similar to a $90k salary in Kansas.

Yeah it’s crazy! I’d love to make that much. I do very well but my biggest flex is honestly I have same take home pay as I did 3 yrs ago despite two promotions because I’ve invested all of my increased pay!!

I would never think it was a negative to make $300k- even tho I understand that if you're spending all that money annually then you're going to need to keep making that much. however, I will point out that making $100k is really not as much as ppl think it is

people have a child like view of that income level until they reach it. it’s a lot of money but people imagine it to be different and don’t think there are things out of reach or that you can’t afford. i think this is the “trap” people are pointing to when it really is just discovering you still have to have some kind of financial budget

They act like the stressors are worse but like my Walmart cartpusher job ($7/hr) was way more strenuous than my tech job. Sure it’s more mentally draining but I have RSUs and can take an intentional trip to reset!

My family of 4 in a pretty HCOL situation haven’t really worried about money since our household income was about $250k. We don’t budget 🤷‍♀️we just know we’re not rich so we don’t do crazy stuff. It’s absurd to say a single person making $300k are having a hard time.

I think people say it’s a “bad thing” because despite making that much money, they’re inherently unhappy. They’re using money to attempt make themselves happy, and… find it that doesn’t work 🤭 we’re comfortable and complacent but.. are we inherently happy?

Yep. People get big mortgages and car payments. Or they took out massive student loans to get professional degrees. And then they feel stuck in their job because of the big financial decisions they've made.

It’s such a cheat code. I live like I make 150k a year but actually earn much more. I’m investing the rest so I can afford to retire early. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to be happy or comfortable

So true - and it’s always a way to sell some “course” or something to “be your own boss” 🙄

Also, none of those people make anywhere near that much money. They are sitting in their car and just saying stupid clickbait quips
