I think we should apply some kind of heat protection and straighten them, or use a Dyson hairdryer with a comb to straighten them out — they’ll look less dense, more smooth, and it’ll be easier to make a bun.

the initial movement to start the bun is incorrect, start with the back of your hand underneath the hair at your nape and then twist in a circular motion (counterclockwise) to get a loop. that loop is what will hold the rest of the hair that you wrap around when you push the wrapped hair through it and then you can insert your hair stick!

Your hair may be a little bit too thick for that kind of bun, but here's how I always do it. Gather your hair into one hand, take your other hand and place the back of that hand on the underside of your hair, drop the hair into the palm you're not holding it in, and start twisting it up while pulling gently, only twist 2-3 times and use your non-occupied hand to wrap the leftover hair around the bottom of the twisted loop, then bring the loop down over the twisted section and push the twisted section slightly through the hole your hand was in.
