I’m an RN of > 30 years. It’s not just mental health. It’s ALL healthcare. The mental health system is just as you describe. The great majority of psychologists now don’t accept insurance either so they can charge HUGE private pay rates. No limits. This whole case shows just what a shambles it is. You cannot get mental health care unless you find the one-in-a-million gem. There are some but very rare.

I had a psych PA tell me I was bipolar and needed anti psychotics after my 1st 30 min appointment. My gynecologist prescribed HRT for perimenopause at the same time. I never took the antipsychotics and never went back to that PA. The HRT fixed my absolutely crippling anxiety and insomnia as well as a host of physical problems. I cant imagine what would happened to me if I had taken those other meds.

My nephew was having a psychotic break and was arrested and held in a hospital for 2 weeks and at the end of 2 weeks HE, the psychotic person, got to decide if he needed to be admitted for further treatment because he was 19 “an adult”….his parents had no say. He committed suicide 2weeks later….NO mental healthcare exists
