@the_30_rule: Improving restaurant customer service and employee retention starts with how you train and develop your managers. We’re so quick to say employees don’t care. They need more training. We need better people. But who is responsible for developing those people? You hired a manager with experience. Great. Who taught them YOUR expectations? Who showed them how to coach your team? Who is helping them become a better leader? You cannot hand someone a set of keys and expect them to figure it out. Define what they’re responsible for. Give them clear, measurable expectations. Work alongside them. Coach them through the hard conversations. Follow up on what you taught. That is leadership development. And it has to happen before you can expect consistent hospitality. You want better employee retention? Give people leaders who help them grow. You want a better guest experience? Develop leaders who teach your team how to deliver it. You want to scale? Start developing people who can lead without you standing next to them. Your team needs someone to show them the way. So do your managers.
Honestly I agree with you most of the time. The problem lies in that people who have never been on the ground floor saying this is how it should be. I.E. they have no idea how to actually do the things, no how idea to do the actual job and deciding from 5 lvls away how to do it

Been in middle management almost 20 years. I get the push of service training programs, but they all feel so fake. Repeated buzz words and techniques (although fairly proven). How do we make these things meaningful and not just another corporate push?
