Ex Mormon here and it’s never the religion it’s the people and if you hated the religion it’s bc your family made you hate it. The teachings are great and it created a wonderful foundation for me. I just grew up and chose something else but nothing they taught me was cult like or weird

Beautiful perspective. Mormons are believers in the one true God and His son, Jesus Christ. That’s what is most important. The imperfections of members and leaders are not a reflection of the faith in its entirety. That’s simply a reflection of their human nature. No one is perfect, but God.
