Hot take: it shouldn’t be by age or year they’re in. It should be TALENT. A concept my choir teacher fails to grasp

I feel like seniority should only come into play if like two people are equally suited for a role

I hate when it’s always the senior or junior getting the lead roles… I understand that like it’s their last year/years so you want to make it special for them, but like sometimes they just aren’t as good as maybe a freshman is (saying as a sophomore)

Wild take- experience is a important part in casting. I’ve been in shows with insanely talented actors who were young and a number of them froze up because they messed up

hot take: senority SHOULD play the tinest part in casting. I get giving like a freshman a larger role in a show, maybe with a long monologue or a solo, but giving a freshman like THE title character or main lead (for example, Elle woods in legally blonde) just doesn’t sit right with me

Hot take: everyone deserves the formative years of getting bad roles before the gratification of getting seniority roles not only for personal development but also for your acting. When you are a lead, your decisions are written on the page for you. When you have 2 lines in the whole show or are ensemble, you get the joy of discovering your own character. Decide their favorite color, their dream job as a child, who in the cast they like and don’t like. It’s a creative liberty that oftentimes doesn’t translate as well to leads. Show up, do your best, and take what you’re given. If you show your director that you can be a multidimensional actor with only 2 lines, imagine how much higher they’ll think of you when considering you for a role with 200+. Sincerely, someone who had a streak of bad roles before landing leading ladies

In my opinion I think upperclassmen get cast in lead roles over freshman less due of seniority but trust and responsibility. A lead role takes a lot and its much easier to work with someone who's been in the program longer. Its less teaching and more the actor knowing exactly what to do.

its not even the age thing for me. its the favoritism. theres this girl who sugars up to the teachers and gets every lead. shes a rude girl irl. I might be younger but I have talent and confidence. im loud, confident, and can sing tenor-saprano all comfortably

I’ve been a lead for the past four years so I guess that makes this about me😭😭😭 but like our school is small and I know I’m really experienced with theater when others just don’t really care anymore😭 I’m approaching senior year and I just don’t want to do something dumb for our musical, that’s all I care about😭

Okay if its like the freshmen is obviously better choice then thats diffrent, but if they both are about the same that's when seniority comes into play.
