The Evandro case, known as
The Evandro case, known as "The Witches of Guaratuba," began in April 1992, when six-year-old Evandro Ramos Caetano disappeared in Guaratuba, Paraná, on his way to school. Days later, the child's body was found in a wooded area, showing signs of extreme violence. His father recognized him by a birthmark on his back. The crime shook the state, which was already experiencing a climate of fear: other children had disappeared in the region, such as seven-year-old Leandro Bossi, who disappeared two months earlier in the same city. Investigations revealed that Evandro had been the victim of an alleged ritual attributed to Celina and Beatriz Abagge—the wife and daughter of the then-mayor of Guaratuba—along with Osvaldo Marcineiro, Vicente de Paula Ferreira, and Davi dos Santos Soares. Seven people were charged, and four were convicted. Celina and Beatriz were imprisoned for nearly six years. Over time, evidence emerged that the confessions had been obtained under police coercion. The tapes used as evidence were revealed years later to have been edited, omitting sections in which the accused were instructed to confess. In 2011, Beatriz was convicted again, but appealed the sentence while free and received a pardon. Celina, now elderly, was not tried because the statute of limitations had expired. In 2023, the Paraná Court of Justice overturned the convictions after releasing the original recordings, which revealed serious irregularities. The case gained renewed attention with the podcast "Projeto Humanos," by journalist Ivan Mizanzuk, and the GloboPlay documentary series, which exposed flaws and manipulations in the case. Three decades have passed… and the Evandro case remains shrouded in mystery. Between forced confessions, missing evidence, and doubts about the victim's true identity, the truth seems to have been lost along with the innocence of that coastal city. Today, “the witches of Guaratuba” are free — and the country still wonders: who really took the life of Evandro Ramos Caetano? #evandroramoscaetano #truecrime #viral #fyp #scary
