it’s so funny to me that people lose their minds over this because I’m from the area and this is always just been the normal. But I have coworkers that live out in Missouri and when they come to visit for business reasons, they literally choose that as one of their like things that they want to do after work hours. 😭

You're lucky the escalators were even half working. When i worked there there were days that both escalators and elevators were out so people couldnt move between floors but they have elevator/escalator techs there every day
