“Ankle sprains take a long time to heal” ❌ Let’s bust this myth. I sprained my ankle badly, and per industry standard I should’ve been out for 6-8 weeks. Here’s how I got back on the field in 5 days: 1. No ice! 🧊 The body swells and creates natural inflammation on purpose. This and blood flow are what regenerate tissue. So the LAST thing I want to do is shut that process down, and slow down the healing (assuming I can handle the pain). 2. Hot/Cold contrast therapy 🔥 💧 We can speed up the healing by enhancing the blood flow to the tissue. A great way to do this in the beginning, is to use hot and cold baths to heat and cool the area. This becomes even more effective when you add in ankle circles while in the bath. This is great for the beginning stages of recovery. 3. Ankle Flossing 🦷 When we temporarily restrict blood flow to an area, and then work that area, and then let the blood flow back in, we create reactive hyperemia. This means that extra blood rushes to that area. This speeds up healing in a near-magical way, especially when practiced consistently over the course of multiple days. It also offers some scar tissue adhesion benefits, helping to break up initial scarring. 4. Meta-spacing 🦶 The metatarsal bones in the feet are already very crunched together from wearing shoes on a daily basis, so this is beneficial to everyone. Using a rope or hard and round surface allows us to crest space between the foot bones, and practice putting weight on the ankle. 5. Low intensity plyometrics 🦿 As soon as we can handle it, we want to start loading the ankle. A safe way to do that is lots of small hops. This will allow us to build up ankle stiffness, and general trust and strength in the joint. 6. OKF (@oneofakind_fitness) Isometric Holds 🧬 This is the other way we want to want to load the ankle. OKF exercises activate the entire body, and create stronger connections from joint to joint. These are really the only exercises anyone should be using on a regular basis anyways and we want to practice exercises like the OKF Squat Iso and OKF Ankle Iso as soon as we can handle it. This is the process, healed in just 5 days! 🧬 🦶 💥 #Fitness #health #Soccer
