my tio had a rule as a kid that we do not turn off the candles in front of the living room coat closet. my cousin thought it would be funny to try it once and he threw up brown blood. found out we had a family grimoire the next day when my titi was called to "fix" what he fucked up.

I had an uncle who stayed in the upstairs room at my aunts house and he never came out, I only saw his silhouette a few times going to the rest room at night. They literally passed him food through the door and everything we weren't allowed to bother him. But one time I was pregnant and stranded he came out for the first time in years to come get me 😭that was the first time I had seen him in daylight EVER 😭turns out he had a very traumatic experience that made him a hermit nobody ever spoke about...😭

my father was always the last person to eat..sometimes he would say he is full but i later realised the food wasn't enough some of the days so he chose to sleep on an empty stomach and let us eat

Not a rule but at a very young age my mom made me practice and remember her phone number and told me to only approach women with kids (moms) or teenagers. Before I knew my own phone number I always remembered hers. One day my friends pushed me into a random train (I had never taken a train before and I was around 8-9 at the time.) and I didn’t know where I was, I was crying and the first thing I saw when I stepped out was a woman with a baby in her stroller and thankfully she called my mom and she picked me up. To this day I still remember her phone number and im forever grateful

for years i had a cousin(she was in her 20s at the time) who wasn’t allowed to come to family reunions if my grandma and or grandpa were there. everyone acted like nothing was out of the ordinary but one day i caught my family talking about it, and i found out that my grandpa had slept with said cousin when she was a teenager… they all chose to protect my grandpa and blame my cousin for it all, she was just a kid😢 i never saw my grandpa or grandma the same because why tf would my grandma also stay with him through that??

We weren’t allowed to watch the movie gremlins until we were in middle school. When we were finally able to watch we watched all the way through and were confused what the issue was. My dad said that they talked about Santa not being real in the movie snd he didn’t want to spoil that for us.

We have a ranch, there we have the kitchen separated from the principal house, we have only two rules: 1. If You hear someone knocking at the door at 3am, ignore it. 2. Never go out to the kitchen after 2am. Not because is haunted... dude, the fucking coyotes learn how to knock the doors to attack ppl.

Up until I was maybe 11(?) I had to wear long sleeves under all of my shirts and dresses and stocking under my dresses, skirts and even shorts. No exceptions. It was a rule my dad enforced that my mum didnt challenge. He used to claim it was bc he didnt want dirty old men looking at me and sexualising me. As I got older I learnt about his own history (he was 22 and my mum was 12 when they were first caught together sexually), he had cp on his phones and was even involved in with his younger half sister. It was never about other men it was about him looking at me but actually feeling disgusted bc I was his daughter.
