Trust me, make this your first sewing project! And ignore anyone that tells you to sew a pillowcase 🥴. It is so easy to make, can be made in basically any fabric, and it’s easily customised to your size, height and style preferences. Plus, when you nail this staple skirt, you can use this as a base for a tonne of other projects. The pattern is simply your desired height x your hip measurement x 1.5-2 per piece. Your skirt will be 2 rectangles. The skirt I did is x2- keep in mind the bigger you go, the more hemming, and the more fabric will be bunched at your waist, so there does come a time where there’s too much fabric around the waist and it can appear a little bulky. To make the skirt you just sew up the side seams, then overlock the sides, top, and bottom of your two rectangles. Now you can hem the bottom of the skirt. And do the same for the top of the skirt- except the height of this hem should be just a touch bigger than the height of your elastic. For example my elastic was 2cm, my waistband was 2.3cm. Don’t fully close this top hem, leave an opening so you can thread your elastic through it. Secure the elastic ends together and stitch a couple times back and forth to add strength.
