@doctor.nicolej: No one wants to use black hair products anymore because they’re not rooted in research. I couldn’t disagree more! There are founders who prioritise creating hair care product that perform very well on coily and textured hair. Here’s two of my favourites that pour into research and development of their product to ensure peak performance on black hair! @Cecred @Design Essentials Hair @Black Girl Sunscreen #BlackTikTok #blackwomen #4chair #curlyhair #haircare
I have CCCA alopecia and switching to science backed hair products and talking my medication grew my hair back. When I was taking my medicine and using black hair brands my scalp was still itching, burning, with bald spots!

We are science-backed!! I am the Founder, a literal Neuroscientist (PhD), and we’ve done studies on our formulated products! 🥰💚

The issue is that a lot of black hair care brands fail to market their science and instead pander off of fear. That’s what the issue is. I feel like modern black brands are bringing in more science. But what the hell is a co wash? This is the issue. Black brands pandering off of fear that’s not scientifically based. We need to call this out and put more of a spotlight on black companies that use good science.

Meanwhile I exclusively use Black owned hair brands. It doesn’t sit right with me that brands like African Pride are anglo owned 😬

I slightly agree. Obvious science backed black haircare is not the majority. I think it’s a marketing problem as opposed to a lack of research and development though. For a long time black haircare consumers were more comfortable with ‘natural’ type of ingredients so brands moved in that direction. Now consumers want obvious science backed communication. Not all brands have adapted yet but I don’t think it’s a hard shift. Just may need to do more clinical studies, or call out the more ‘science-y’ ingredients which they do have in the products

People are tired as many of the black companies sell out on us. We have no clue untill we start to c hair damage- to find they sold company to a white organisation

I think it’s the worry of fake products in certain shops.

This is such an important distinction 👏🏾 Black-owned doesn’t mean “not science-backed”. We need more conversations about the actual formulation, testing and R&D behind products instead of writing off an entire category of brands!!!

it's not necessarily the brand it's the shops they're buying in! you can't get design essentials in superdrug or boots and I don't buy from Indian hair shops
