people gasoline can be lighter that's fine but a gallon is a gallon you feel a gallon of gas or a gallon of water the weight might be different but the volume of that gallon is still 1 gallon it's not that complicated

Pump tech here. Each gas pump needs to be calibrated once a year to regulate this issue. There is a state tolerance that allows the pump to be out of calibration by a few cents but not this bad. So if you find this it’s most likely a poor maintained gas station. If you find this report it and the state WILL shut them down. This is not the government stealing from us🤦🏼♂️. This situation also works the opposite way as in you could pay for 5 gallons and get 6 gallons due to the calibration being off but nobody complains then lol.

back in the day they would pump the fuel into the glass tank above the pump so customer could see they were getting the amount they are paying for. They took those away... imagine that..

yeah i 100% believe this because my car is a 10 gallon tank and a about a year or so ago it magically started taking 17-18 gallons to fill from E. so how tf did my gas tank magically grow 7-8 gallons bigger😭
