According to scripture, the last time God or Jesus directly communicated with anyone was John on Patmos around 95 AD (and bodily interaction ended at the Ascension around 33 AD). It’s difficult to argue a being 'only wants a relationship' when there has been two millennia of radio silence compared to the active, audible interactions recorded in biblical times.
