Saw one that said their kid ran out of deodorant and didn’t have his car and she didn’t allow him to walk because it was close to a major highway. She didn’t think he could figure out the public transportation. She was thinking of calling housing to see if they could take him some emergency deodorant. Wanted to know if there were any other options in case they couldn’t.

No shame in being homesick or needing time to adjust. That’s normal. Don’t over react to it. Help them thru it but don’t let them quit. It’s a hard moment but a hard life. They need to know you fully believe they are capable. 💯

My daughter is on the other side of the world from me, in her first year of college abroad. She doesn’t speak the language yet. She called me and broke down during those first few days. She’s still trying to figure things out. I asked her if she felt like she would have anything figured out in a month. She said no. I am so proud of her for not saying once that she wants to come home. She has not said once that she’s giving up on her dream. ❤️

Well a big part of the problem is the parent calling them “my baby”. The kids need to figure it out and the parents need to step back and let the kids know they won’t fix things for them.

This is the exact time to learn independence, resilience, social skills, conflict resolution and meeting people you normally wouldn't have the opportunity to meet.

This is why my university holds classes on Labor day: if students went home for the holiday, a good portion wouldn't come back.

Parents, please stop telling your kids they’re are too fragile and stupid to do this. Because when you pull them out right away, that is exactly what you are telling them. Your student is perfectly capable of learning and growing on their own.
