I work at a hotel at the front desk and have people complain about this all the time. I've even had people come down and complain about seeing housekeepers drinking out of water bottles on the floors.

Why would it be unsanitary for the hostess to be drinking something? The majority of the people in the room are drinking something in a restaurant.

I will never understand the thing where people can’t drink water in front of customers like is it because it reminds them that we’re human beings and that makes them feel guilty

Welcome to both hospital and restaurant life. Consuming WATER will not kill our patients OR our customers! in FACT it allows us to continue to SERVE EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!! AS will allowing us to PEE!(We are the same, and WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!)
