My daughter played four years of college soccer. When we toured colleges and met with soccer coaches we asked about scholarship options. Very thankful that one of the coaches recommended she apply for the Presidential academic scholarship. She did receive that scholarship and it covered 100% tuition for all four years. However it did not cover room and board. It was over $250,000 in scholarship money at this private college. She graduated summa cum Laude with a bachelors in Biology and two minors (chemistry and psychology).

My sister in law is pushing my nephews do get athletic scholarships hard. I’m thinking the amount they put into these teams/ tournaments/ equipment etc could pay for their education. I do get the benefit of sports but it’s soooooo much money

What are you talking about? You do not go to the Bahamas for undergraduate. If that child wants to be a doctor, there are steppingstones required inside the United States. I’m not sure where you’re from.

It honestly depends on the school. If the school has sports scholarships and academic merit it can cover most of the tuition and room & board. You just need to be smart about it.

Colleges rely on athletics for enrollment and guaranteed tuition. Many coaches at smaller schools have to carry larger rosters just for the tuition

I tell my kids and literally every parent that investing in child sports is for physical, mental and social enrichment do not expect college money back! Most people get less than 1% of what they invest

Open up an investment account for your kid when they're 10 and put all that money in there that you'd put into sports and give it back to them when they're 25

Yes, and what you have to love about this collegiate sports scenario that has now blown up is that most schools take insane amounts of kids on the roster promising a potential for a future scholarship for them to earn. I know a D2 school has 64 women’s soccer players 11 players play on the field at a time most rosters two decades ago would’ve carried 25 tops all those extra players do is bringing revenue through student loans.
