Vietnam has a few spots that get hyped constantly online, and after going to a lot of them myself, some are genuinely worth it and some are not. Here are my honest overrated versus underrated takes, with a real reason behind each one. Sa Pa used to be the dreamy rice-terrace town, but it is overbuilt now, a cluster of concrete hotels, tour touts and crowds. If you want the real northern mountains, do the Ha Giang Loop instead. It is a multi day motorbike route through remote limestone passes, and the view from Ma Pi Leng over the Nho Que river is one of the best in the whole country. Ben Thanh Market gets sent to every tourist, but the prices are marked way up and the vendors hard sell you on everything. For the food, go to Ho Thi Ky instead. It is a narrow local alley packed with over a hundred stalls, and the grilled skewers start at around a dollar. Nha Trang has turned into a wall of high-rise resorts, water parks and constant construction. Quy Nhon, a few hours up the coast, is the laid-back version with beautiful quiet beaches, fresh cheap seafood, and barely any of the crowds. Phu Quoc is marketed as paradise, but it is now a giant theme park and the world's longest sea cable car, and a lot of it feels fake. Con Dao is the pristine version, a quiet cluster of islands and a national park with empty beaches and clear water. The Mekong Delta day tour from Saigon looks tempting, but you arrive too late for anything real, and it is mostly a staged coconut-candy and handicraft stop. Sleep in Can Tho instead and go to the Cai Rang floating market at sunrise. By nine in the morning the real trading is basically over. These are just my honest opinions, so tell me if you disagree. Save this before your Vietnam trip. #vietnamtravel #vietnamtips #travelvietnam #vietnamtrip #vietnam
