@whitneylynallen: No one prepares you for how lonely grief can be. People assume that support automatically appears when your world falls apart, but what I learned after Ryan died is that most of the “systems” around us were never built with real loss in mind. There’s a protocol for onboarding at a new job. There’s a protocol for filing your taxes. But there’s no protocol for how to help a 30-something widow holding two small children and trying to keep her life from collapsing. So you’re handed a few days off. A stack of cards. A government check that feels almost insulting. And then the world quietly shifts back to normal while you’re still standing in the aftershock, trying to figure out how to breathe in a life that no longer looks like yours. I share this not to shame anyone or to say that people don’t care. Most people genuinely want to help. They just don’t know how. They’ve never had to learn the language of grief, so they lean on clichés and timelines because it feels safer than saying, “I don’t know what you need, but I’m here to walk with you.” If you’re in that early season of loss, I want you to hear this: you are not dramatic, behind, or “too much” for struggling through something that shattered the foundation of your life. You are responding like a human being who loved deeply. And if you’re supporting someone who is grieving, remember that the support people need often begins long after the funeral is over. It’s in the quiet months when the calls slow down, when the paperwork hits, when the kids ask impossible questions, when the reality finally sinks in. Grief doesn’t fit into a three-day policy. It rewrites everything. If you’re navigating grief and need a place where you don’t have to explain or shrink your experience, you’re welcome here. I’m so sorry that you have to deal with this. I lost my husband on 6/26/26. I didn’t have small children so I can’t imagine that aspect but I understand about protocols not being there and the lack of real assistance.

My condolences. I know just how difficult it must be for you. I lost my husband Matt last December and still trying to figure out how to move forward without him being here. 🙏🙏🙏😭😭
