If you don’t hate your house you’re not a real home owner

I'm not buying a house from 1950 for $300k that needs $50k-$100k worth of updates.

1910 for me. There is no “weekend project” on a 100+ year old house. Only pain.

Some Boomer wanted 320k for a 90s 2400 sq ft 3 bed 2 bath that needed a roof, flooring, kitchen appliances, and bathrooms replaced. Oh and the basement was only half finished

Just redid my first floor in my house that was built in 1955. Every damn wall had an issue. Wall is not straight, electrical is wrong, windows and doors not plum. I'm finally finished. A two week project turned into a three month adventure.

Because it cost a LOT of money to re wire an entire knob and tube house. Oh it’s got a boiler in the basement? Awesome! What’s forced air? I prefer 25 window units. Oh awesome my toilet flange broke.. oh shit everything is cast iron! Hell yah!

As a potential first-time home buyer who can only afford rundown homes that need a lot of work, how do you get a loan for a rundown place and then get the money for materials, tools, etc., without running yourself into unmanageable debt?

Renovated an 1890s farm house. Everything that once rotted was covered up. practically had to tear all of the floors out including joist and replace them. Every small project grew into a major job. It was literally a money trap. Finished it last July. Ex wife filed for divorce. Now her and her new bf get to enjoy all of the work and money I put into it.

You never mention that nothing is square. Or that you have to choose. Level with the earth, or level with the house
