As someone who went to a high school dance with a boy with Down syndrome. I had the best time dancing all night. (He’s a way better dancer than I am). We’re still friends till this day 15 years later.

my older sister has down syndrome, shes four years older than me but was in highschool until she was 20 so i spent my highschool years with her and i genuinely loved and cherished it so much. there will always be people with hatred and envy in their hearts and unfortunately they will make comments and maybe be rude. but i can promise you there are way more kids who show love and respect and support and show them the best highschool years. my sister never got to go to hoco but she always wanted to. i hope jack and his date have the best time!!

You have such a great heart. Keep sharing. My daughter has gone with a special needs boy and it was a highlight for his whole family and ours. His family was so nervous because they had similar feelings/concerns as you. We never did. I was so excited for my daughter too. She had an amazing night and he taught my daughter so many fun and amazing things. We all have our gifts to offer and share and Jack is no different. I loved Jacks video!! She is one sweet girl and he’s one great guy they’ll have a great time at the dance.

I have some of the same feelings only the reverse my daughter is a freshman in high school this year. And I want her to experience all the beautiful experiences that can happen in high school from dances to being a part of athletic sports if she wants to whatever it is, I want her to engage. But I also want her to have genuine friendships and I want her to genuinely have a guy who WANTS to take her to some of these events because of who she is not because it’s a pity invitation OR feeling of obligation to include her.
