@kendallybrown: The politicians and the pundits lecturing millennials and Gen Z for not having as many children are gaslighting all of us. They know they’ve sold us all out and auditioned off the so-called “American dream” to the highest bidder, throwing the rest of us under the bus in the process #news #feminism #kendallybrown #family

Republicans hear this story and decide the thing to bring back is not the real wages or ability to own a home, but the childhood polio.

They aren’t wrong, we should go back to several of those values. . . Strong Unions, Strong Education, 90% tax rate on the wealthy.

There’s a finite amount of money in the U.S. and if oligarchs and billionaires are hoarding wealth like dragons, there isn’t money for anyone else to acquire. That’s why we’re all fucked.

There’s so much to consider here too. Back then, a dollar was worth more than it is now. The minimum wage, if it kept up with worker productivity, would be nearly $26.

My grandmother never worked. My grandfather retired at 55 (also from a grain elevator), with a pension and a $8,500 house and a $1,000 car. They lived in that house for 60 years (until they both passed away). They had a comfortable life and paid cash for both of their sons to go to state colleges.

My grandparents went on 2 vacations a year, even after retirement. In 2020, my gma asked me why I haven’t been on vacation in a while.. like, first off Covid and second money. I haven’t been on vaca in 10 years

my grandfather retired in the 90s. never made more than 23k a year working for a union. took 4 trips to other countries, was able to send all of his 7 kids to college, paid off his house, and still had money and time left over for his kids and grandkids. and my grandmother never worked.

The old phrase taking the ladder up with them comes to mind. We have fallen so far and we were lied too for so long. Regan was the beginning of the end.

My grandparents were considered poor. But they raised six kids and owned their own house on a half acre of land in town. All on my grandfather’s salary. He was a milk man.

President FDR actually created a 90% tax rate for the rich during his term as president. It was called a maximum wage. Wanna guess who ended it? Ronald Reagan.
