Think of this from a GM perspective. Luke Evangelista would not make the top-6 of a cup contender and doesn’t have bottom-6 skills. He’s primarily a scorer, a decent passer, but soft on the puck and not that great defensively. The goal of any team is to build a cup winning team and if Evangelista doesn’t fit that criteria then what’s the point in carrying him on the roster. May as well get what you can and attempt to improve. He’s not a difference maker and has probably topped out. So this is a good trade for Nashville. They unloaded a player that isn’t going to really help them. I don’t know the motivation for New Jersey. Seems like a poor trade for them.
