@alexandrawildeson: Unless you KNOW mom wants something that’s $$ and she didn’t put it on the registry, obviously. Because then you’re a saint 😘 #pregnancyhumor #pregnancytiktok #babyregistry #babyshowergifts #babyshowergift
Books you can go off registry for. Go wild with them, personalize the choice to the parents. If the parent is interested in the book, they're more likely to read it to their child. 100% agree with buying needs first - buy the boring stuff off the registry, those are the most appreciated gifts. I remember every single person who bought us diapers and wipes. Couldn't tell you who bought us random clothes and "keepsakes".

Generally, I will buy practical things off the registry and then go rogue with $15-20 to get something cutesy or something I appreciated having that I didnt see on the registry.

I just don’t want people going rogue on items like wipes, soap, detergent. I’ve got specific ones on there because I have intense skin allergies and I have to use specific products because of it

I would be upset if someone doesn’t get me what I want off my registry I put cheap stuff and some $50-$60 but if they go off the registry they don’t know that I have clothes from preemie all the way up to 3T (and she isn’t even here yet) I have certain kind of soap that I like for the baby. I have a basket full of blankets. I have swaddles from my first kid like if it’s not on the registry 99.9% of the time I already have it or have enough of it. so then just spending money on the stuff that I already have is just a waste of money personally because as long as the tags are still on it, I’m just gonna return it. Just get me something I actually want.

I got a lot of books gifted to me from parent friends that are not on the registry along with things that ARE on the registry. And a nurse friend gifted me a new born med kit which is very appropriated.

Yes….. but, the stuff on my registry if stuff I need. I have 5 kids… I don’t need a bunch of random stuff that I really won’t use. I know what’s needed. What’s not needed. What’s useful but can be lived without. What is going to be used for a couple weeks and never touched again. So if I truly need it, it’s on my registry. But I’m not going to turn down what people gift us off the registry. Although, many first time moms have no clue what they really need and put way more on their registry than will ever be needed…. and a lot of registries are full of useless junk that registry websites like to convince you are must haves!

I always do the laundry basket. Pretty wicker when I find them. Baby towels, Dreft or All Clear, baby bottle wash, a frozen home cooked meal, then I fill in all the small stuff you don’t need until 3am, suppositories, Tylenol, teething ointment.

I would set a budget and buy a cheaper item on the registry and then buy what I wanted to buy with a gift receipt.
