A scrambled egg at home needs an egg. Starbucks needs 11 ingredients and a factory. The Egg Bites — marketed as the "cleaner" option — contain cottage cheese loaded with maltodextrin, carrageenan, mono and diglycerides, locust bean gum, guar gum, and natamycin — the same antifungal eye medication found in Kraft shredded cheese. The cheese inside the bites contains powdered cellulose — wood pulp. The label also reads: "Contains Bioengineered Food Ingredients." The only real egg at Starbucks is the hard-boiled egg in the Protein Box — eggs and citric acid. That's it. Everything else is a manufactured patty with stabilisers, thickeners, emulsifiers, and an antifungal medication. This is the same company charging $9 for coffee and calling it a "premium experience."
