@fresnosheriff: At 5:10 pm on Tuesday, two deputies in a single patrol car observed a wrong way driver in downtown Fresno. The vehicle was traveling north on M Street, near Tuolumne Street. The deputies drove north on M Street to try and make a traffic stop. Once the patrol vehicle reached the next intersection at Stanislaus Street, it crashed into the side of a FAX bus, disabling the patrol car. The wrong way driver continued on and was never contacted. EMS and Fresno Police responded to the scene. Both deputies were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A total of seven passengers on the bus also went to the hospital as a precautionary measure, but did not appear to have any injuries. Fresno Police is handling the collision investigation. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists to be aware of one-way streets while driving in downtown Fresno. It can be confusing to people not familiar with the area. Always look for posted signs, as well as on the road for yellow lines signifying two-way streets and white lines for one-way streets. And of course, be mindful of cars driving toward you that should not be, as this is an indicator one of you may be heading in the wrong direction.
