the deep ocean animals don't interact with us because we are their "space". they can't breathe out of water like we can't breathe in space. they can't handle atmospheric pressure changes just like we can't. down there, they could be extremely intelligent, have their own language, and what could closely resemble civalization but are still bound by the laws of nature and physics required of our planet that separates them from us.

It’s all fun and games until you and your Marine buddies are doing nighttime training ops in the water at 0200 off the California coast swimming up to a gas/oil platform and you get bumped in the pitch black by something 20-30 times your size that instantly rolls you over, pulls you down into the drink, tumbles you twice, and leaves you questioning all your life choices up to that point. I…HATE…THE…OCEAN!

Fun fact: Most deep ocean life lives in permanent darkness with eyes designed to detect incredibly small amounts of light. So when we go down there and shine bright ass lights on them, they go blind. Often permanently.
