It is the very boat that enables him to reach some of the most remote and far-flung communities across our country, communities that are often difficult to access and whose people are frequently forgotten. This same boat was being used in the search efforts of the MV Barima. The boat had earlier been carrying much-needed clothing and other items for distribution to persons affected by the MV Barima tragedy, as well as other residents throughout the Port Kaituma and Mabaruma sub-districts in Region One. The boat that may have been seen on the water during the search with nothing inside had, earlier that same day, been packed with clothing and actively engaged in a distribution drive. The Leader of the Opposition and WIN MPs were in Region One, taking assistance directly to the people who needed it. At a time when this country should be focused on supporting communities, helping those affected by tragedy, and ensuring that assistance reaches people in the most remote parts of Guyana, the government has chosen to detain a boat that has been repeatedly used to serve the people.
