If the Mawlid is conducted in the mosque, as it is traditionally done in Tarim, Hadhramaut, then we can understand and accept it to some extent because it is conducted with dignity and respect. However, the way it is sometimes celebrated in East Africa with dancing, jumping, and other such actions seems to me to be deeply disrespectful.
I doubt that the Prophet ﷺ, if he were among us today, would approve of such behavior being associated with the commemoration of his birth. We should always remember and honor the Prophet ﷺ with dignity, respect, and reverence.
