I started playing again in 2009 and signed up for a league that put you on a team based on self ranking. I played with with as many as 8 but 4 of them I still play with on teams today. On the same team but different rinks, leagues, multiple teams in same season, year round. Its been a wild ride

My son does learn to skate and he’s about to be 4. I already can skate but I practice my skills during his practice time so we both do it at the same time 🥰 I’m on my hockey journey as well at 31!

If you become a referee, you get to practice skating and get paid for being there. You also get first hand experience learning and enforcing the rules

A lot of leagues here run Discover Hockey programs that help you buy the right gear for you, learn everything from the ground up and feed into a beginner division! I have a few friends who started that way and it provided them a great foundation

I’m learning as well. You don’t tape the bottom of the blade? Thats how I don’t go through the tape with my stick on the ice

if youre in Boston - happy to help, DM me. I learned late in life and will forever pay it forward as it was the best decision ever. Best way to start in Boston if you want to research your own - public skate, Learn To Play and Learn to Skate clinics at Warrior Ice Arena. Eventually sign up for StinkySocks - rec games with refs, no commitment. Best way to learn without pressure of being in a team. once you're comfy with that, join a beginner league!
