I’m not trying to convince anyone of my beliefs, but as a Muslim I do want to clarify something about the question, “Where was God?” We believe that Allah is All-Powerful and that every human being has an appointed time on this earth. Death does not mean that God was absent or powerless to prevent it. Allah tells us: “No soul can ever die except by Allah’s permission, at an appointed time.” (Qur’an 3:145) Every one of us will eventually die—regardless of our position, wealth, power, or circumstances. The fact that someone was murdered does not remove the murderer’s responsibility for the crime; the attacker is accountable for what they chose to do. But from the Islamic perspective, no human being can cause someone to die outside the time Allah has decreed for that person. So for a believer, the question is not whether Allah had the power to prevent death. Of course He did. Rather, we recognize that this worldly life is temporary, that we do not know all of Allah’s wisdom, and that ultimately every one of us will return to Him. **﴿كُلّنَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُالْمَوْتِ﴾** “Every soul will taste death.” (Qur’an 3:185)
