Showing my kids how capable they are through chores has been huge!! Is it easier & faster to do it myself? One million percent. Here's why I do it anyway: 1🌼 It reminds them to be thankful. It's one thing to say we're thankful, but another to show it. Chores show how thankful we are for our home and the things in it. 2🌼 It shows them we trust them & we're confident they can do things that matter. It helps them start believing that too. 3🌼 Hard work literally activates the brain's reward system & gives kids a real sense of accomplishment. 4🌼 Even kids need to feel needed. Here's how I do it: 1🌼The number of chores and level of difficulty is almost entirely dependent on how much energy I have to follow through and the mood of my kids. iykyk. 2🌼 Some weeks it's one list and some weeks each kid gets their own. Some weeks | lean into teamwork & some weeks I want them all to put in their own amount of work. 3🌼 I make the chores on the list very specific to the current state of the house. I literally walk around and write down the list of chores. I try to add a few easy ones at the top and harder ones in the middle. 4🌼 I make sure to include a few chores I know they can do on their own and a few that require a little guidance. 5🌼 Before we start, I go down the list and remind them which cleaning supplies they'll need, what they need to work on (ie. Don't forget the floor around the toilet this time). Then I set them loose. 6🌼 They each get their own colored marker and can check off the chores on the list as they go. It almost makes it a game & rewards them for each chore they do. 7🌼 Before they're done, I have to sign off on each chore. If something needs more cleaning, they get to do it. It teaches them for next time. 8🌼 Once they're done, they get free time. Free time doesn't start until they're done with chores.
