this is all true and great but there’s a huge issue here at hand that isn’t really looked at which is many of these people are extreme addicts that do not want nor can they qualify for help. So the quest then becomes what about them?

What has last 20 years have taught you? Providing housing will never work in LA. The more you provide, the more people will come. CA needs to prioritize assistance to those who have worked within CA for last 5 years

We can’t make homelessness go away, but we can take steps to get more people help if they want it. There are some people who do not want help or are so mentally gone that nothing will work. We need to divide solutions up based on use cases, not one size fits all.

However, you HAVE offered housing either temporary or permanent, in a hotel, a shelter, or a tiny home community, for example. And the homeless person has turned that housing down for whatever personal reason. We can’t mandate they take the housing but we can mandate they can’t take over a street.

You know what would fix this? Cracking down on scammy behaviors from landlords. As someone who was left homeless after COVID x other things, I’m currently paying $3500-$4000 to live out of hotels. That’s literally a luxury apt but nobody will take me because I somehow have to save up to 2-3 times the rent plus deposit AND pay for multiple rental applications which some are scams. This needs to be regulated.

The problem is they don't help people that need the help most. Asking someone to clean themselves up before you help is a losing strategy. In Norway they housed everyone regardless if addiction. Homelessness and addiction has been greatly reduced.

encampment clearing isn't meant to solve homelessness. it's basic city upkeep. public spaces need to remain accessible and functional. that's a legitimate government responsibility regardless of where you stand on the broader issue. the visual homelesses, public drug use and camping is definitely a policy choice. we can say this confidently now as we see different officials crack down on it and see results.

it's a terrible policy because a homeless person won't pay their ticket, so it's a punishment with no teeth. same with the drug laws, anyone can get caught with hard drugs and just get a citation. homeless won't pay and just keep using.
