Why doesn’t AI have shower thoughts?  Canva just held its 2026 AI Vision conference with leaders from Google, OpenAI & Anthropic. The question of the night was how can we implement human-led AI?  What I found out was there are 3 mistakes that most people and companies are making when it comes to implementing human-led AI.

These are: 1. Spending all your AI effort improving what already exists. Natalie from Google shared the 70/20/10 rule: 70% on improving core products, 20% on new products and markets, and 10% on genuinely experimental bets. AI shouldn’t just make the old way faster! It should help you explore what wasn’t possible before. 2. Assuming AI automatically knows how to create on-brand content.
Knowing your brand and knowing how to use your brand are two different things. A brand kit gives AI the ingredients! Your colours, fonts, logos and visual components. Brand templates give it the recipe for how those ingredients should actually be combined. 3. Forgetting that AI doesn’t have shower thoughts.
AI gives us access to an extraordinary map of knowledge, but humans still have to decide where on that map to look. That requires curiosity, wonder and taste. And that might be the most important part of human-led AI! Using technology to make us more productive without removing the creativity, imagination and dreaming that actually makes us human. @Canva

Credit to the point on shower thoughts has to go to Tim Devine from AKQA who did an incredible talk on the night! You can find all the resources discussed in my Linktree
