You were separated from your mother in the very first seconds of your life, ripped away from her, and sent to auction at just one day old. You must have been so scared and so sick without the colostrum needed from your mother’s first milk to have any chance of survival. You were alone in a horrific place without your mother to keep you safe, fed, and warm. Although a human did find you there and took you home, you were again betrayed by a human’s desire to save you without any knowledge of how to care for you. When we got the call, we knew it was probably already too late. We named you Noel and prayed for a miracle. Baby calves are so delicate, and you were so sick. Even though we rushed you to our local doctor for triage and then to Cornell for critical care, it was too late. You passed away at 3 am this morning. We are so sorry this world let you down. Every human is born with an innate sense of morality, but what we engage in when it comes to animals is a complete betrayal of everything we believe to be good and just. How can we heal this world and strive for peace when the warfare that we blindly participate in against animals stands as the most unfathomable transgression against the very principles and ethics we hold dear as a society?
