For anyone wondering what happened to him: his name is Kodi Olson and he was 10 here. He actually spent two weeks with Raymond Moses afterwards and later said they were some of the best days of his life. They lost contact, apparently because his mum accidentally wrote Raymond’s phone number down with a digit missing. More than 20 years later, filmmaker Patrick Suzuki Mitchell tracked them both down and reunited them in 2020. Kodi’s life wasn’t easy. He later became a father and said one of his biggest goals was to be the dad he never had. He also went through a serious mental health crisis, was convicted following a domestic violence incident and served 2½ years in prison. His story is now the subject of a documentary called Saddest Boy Ever, about childhood trauma, fatherhood and trying to break the cycle. Makes this little moment with Raymond hit very differently.

This boy was crying for help. People in the crowd laughed. It wasn't funny, that boy was hurting and he had the courage to speak up. Brave little man! I wish his story was different.
