@grande_americano: I’ve learned a lot about British culture and history in my first year of living in England. However, no matter how much I learn there’s just so many more unique things about the UK to discover…like the alternating rule in regard to Monarchs on British coins and which direction they are facing. Although there’s always at least one to throw a monkey wrench into things…thanks King Edward VIII 👑 #atexaninengland #britishculture #britishcoins #alternatingrule #lifeintheUK

We had a coin shield pattern when the coins were arranged. I don't know if this is still the case as I haven't handled a coins for a while.

The same thing does not happen with stamps. On them they are usually facing Left

King Edward the eighth coins never entered circulation. Apart from a very few new brass three pence coins as they were given to vending machine companies. They are extremely rare now..

I knew about the alternating facing, but didn’t know about the reason for it. So William will follow his paternal grandmother and face right, and George will follow his paternal grandfather and face left

when Caesar came to accept the surrender of 13 kings from across the British isles, he brought war elephants with him. can you imagine travelling on a boat 2,000ish years ago across the English Channel, with Elephants with PTSD. That's mad.

So the red cylindrical, freestanding postboxes are actually called a pillarbox. Postbox: A general term for any receptacle where mail is deposited to be collected by a postal operator. This includes wall boxes, lamp boxes, and free-standing pillars. Pillarbox: A specific free-standing, upright cylindrical postbox traditionally standing directly on the pavement or street.
