@simplify.diabetes: For most people with diabetes, regular physical activity is one of the most effective lifestyle tools for improving blood-glucose control and insulin sensitivity. The best exercise is one that is safe, sustainable and appropriate for the person's fitness level. 1. Brisk walking. One of the simplest options. A walk after meals can be particularly useful for reducing post-meal glucose excursions. 2. Strength/resistance training Weights, resistance bands or bodyweight exercises help build muscle, which is important for glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity. 3. Cycling Good cardiovascular exercise with relatively low impact on the joints. 4. Swimming Provides a full-body aerobic workout and can be useful for people who find weight-bearing exercise uncomfortable. 5. Dancing An enjoyable way to increase cardiovascular activity and consistency matters more than choosing a perfect exercise. 6. Pilates or yoga Can improve flexibility, balance, strength and mobility. They can complement rather than replace aerobic exercise. 7. Interval training Alternating periods of faster and slower activity can improve cardiovascular fitness. Beginners should build up gradually and choose an appropriate intensity. ✔️ A good weekly target For many adults with type 2 diabetes, aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic activity per week, spread across at least 3 days, with no more than 2 consecutive days without exercise. ⚠️ Important safety point If you use insulin or medicines that can cause hypoglycaemia, exercise can lower your blood glucose. You may need to check your glucose before/after activity and carry a source of fast-acting carbohydrate. If you have diabetic foot problems, significant retinopathy, cardiovascular disease, neuropathy or other complications, discuss the safest type and intensity of exercise with your healthcare team. So easy. Drink 2.5 liters water per day. Walk for 10-15 minutes after each meal. Take psyllium 15-30 minutes before meals. Almonds and pumpkin seeds for snack. No fast food. No sugar drinks, limit bread only after meals.
