He is right tho. On a smaller local scale the curvature is two small to be considered curved, so it would be flat. On a larger scale the curve is very pronounced, so it would be curved. It has to do with the size of the ball. If you shrink your self to microb size, you wont notice any curviture while sitting on a ball. Your eyes see it flat because of the size.
