@lifesure2: Ace Khuse during a very difficult period for Orlando Pirates. The club was struggling financially, players were not getting paid, the results were not coming and the Mighty Bucs finished in 13th position at the end of he 1984 NPSL season. 1985 was even worse for the club, which escaped relegation by just one point, finishing in 15th position with 24 points. African Wanderers finished 16th with 23 points, Benoni United and Cape Town Spurs got relegated after finishing 17th and 18th. In that same year, the Buccaneers were rocked by internal strife during the ugly, violent split following the breakway from the NPSL leading to the formation of the NSL. In one dramatic incident at the opening of the NSL season in 1985, China Dibaba Hlongwane, who led one of the breakaway Pirates factions, was stabbed in front of a packed Ellis Park when he led a rival Pirates side to take on Jomo Cosmos in a double header which also featured Iwisa Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows Limited. Khuse and his generation, including the erstwhile captain Nick Bazooka Seshweni, Mandla Metroblitz Sithole among others, perserved and helped the club stay in the professional ranks.
