Scandinavian languages and other west germanic languages like English share an ancestor called proto-norse so all these languages are very very similar. norwegian is the easiest language for English speakers to learn too

Swedish people learn English in order to be able to travel the world, and to be competitive on the global working market. It is also an investment, because a lot of education can only be found outside of Sweden, so it helps with bringing the competence back. This is why lots of other countries are falling behind because they can't compete. In a few decades, Mandarin Chinese might be on equal level with English, who knows. World language (or lingua franca) has changed many times and it's been English's turn pretty much since WW2, which is nothing so far. French was the go-to language for centuries, a little grudge the french still hold to this day 🤣

My kids are super swedish, and I’m trying to teach them not to mix English words into Swedish sentences, but there are so many words they don’t know in Swedish that they do know in English!! I’m like ”and how do you say cave in swedish??” when they are saying stuff like ”och sen var det en cave som vi gick in i”. Thank you Minecraft for that..
