I found $3600 in a roll top desk I bought many years ago. it had an address on it with a letter. didn't take it back to Goodwill because I'm sure it would never have gotten to the people. I drove to the house and asked for the name on the envelope and they said they it was their grandpa and he had past away 2 months ago. (that was 10 years ago). I told them I found a letter to someone from your grandpa. I told them the name and they said it was their grandma. Who was still alive and in the house. I asked if I could speak with her and give her the letter myself. an old lady came to the door, I introduced myself and told her I found a letter from her husband and thought she would like it back. The others went back into the house, she shut the door and said did you find what was in it? I said yes and I wanted to make sure she got it back. She said keep it, all she wants is the letter. I said what about your grandchildren? She said they are tearing the house apart trying to find anything of value, she said they don't deserve it and she didn't need the money. I gave her my number and said that if she ever needed me just call. 6 months later she called and asked if I would help her sell her house. I helped her and she moved in with my mother until she passed. She didn't trust anyone in her family because they were in it for the money. she donated all the money from the house and her investments to charities. the family was so mad. I laughed silently at her funeral how pissed they all looked.
