@aussiemammoth1: Today, a 12-year-old child led all of us to the cemetery — not because she needed the reminder, but because we did. Today at the burial of our young sister Felicia Jasper, only 12 years old, Muslims and non-Muslims stood together at the edge of the same grave. Felicia was a revert to Islam. Her mother and father were reverts, along with her grandfather, while many of her extended family and friends were not of the Muslim faith. But death carries a universal message. Death does not discriminate between age, race, culture, wealth or status. Allah reminds us in the Qur’an: “Every soul shall taste death.” The reminder at a funeral is not for the deceased. Their journey in this world has already ended. The reminder is for me and you — the living. Felicia brought us to the cemetery today to remind us where every one of us is eventually heading. One day, others will stand around our grave. One day, our name will be the name being remembered. We came from our Creator, and to our Creator we shall return.
