Recognizing the urgency of the global climate crisis, he became the first leader to raise the issue of compensation for the losses and damages caused by climate change, particularly for least developed and mountainous countries that have contributed little to the crisis but suffer its consequences disproportionately. He brought this cause to the United Nations General Assembly and helped push the international community to take the issue more seriously. Now that Prachanda is no longer the Prime Minister, I hope the new government will continue pursuing the compensation and climate justice that Nepal and other vulnerable countries rightfully deserve. It is truly unfortunate that we Nepalis have failed to fully understand and appreciate Prachanda.
