So a woman buys a big male dog like a Cane Corso or Rottweiler. She feeds him and is affectionate to him for the first year and he grows to love her. Suddenly she starts eliminating treats and affection because "he expects it now", then she feeds the dog only a couple of times a month because "all he thinks about is food" despite her being the only human he gets fed by. Then one day she comes home after starving the dog for a few weeks and is shocked that he tore down the back door to get out and he's gone. "Dogs are so stupid and worthless" is her reply before going to the pet store and buying a new dog.

My ex tried that. I went along with it, when she decided after two weeks I learned my lesson she tried to initiate. I told her “I think we should work on liking each other first.” She responded “You don’t like me?” I said nothing. After two months of evasive answers she finally broke down saying she misses me and wants to go back to normal. I told her to meet me at my place tomorrow and we will reconnect. I left her stuff on the porch and changed the locks.

Withholding intimacy also commodifies intimacy. At that point things become transactional, which shouldn’t but it begins to tear the relationship apart because now everything is conditional and tit for tat. You begin to resent your significant other and try to one up them rather than work with them.
