Starts with their history… their childhood will give a lot of insight to why and what is causing the behavior. They go to other people and not the person they need to fix the issue with. I find even if it’s triggering for them they will still choose that over facing accountability and resolving the issues.

They have no capacity! Capacity & compatability are more important than connection.

What I notice is that they struggle with repair and this can cause resentment by the other party

"dish it out but can't take it" is what comes to mind for an avoidant. protecting themselves from hurt at all costs, including hurting others.

Avoidant’s are selfish, unaccountable, cruel partners. They don’t have the humility it takes to go do the work and heal. They prefer to lean in to being victims. The truth is most people have experienced trauma and loss and most of us decide to do the work and not let that destroy our lives and the people in our lives. Avoidance need therapy. They really should not date until they do the work.

Avoidants are dysfunctional. They run from accountability, blame you for EVERYTHING and run from real relationships. Stay far away from them.

they should stop seeking out relationships they are incapable of being in, period. especially if they are self aware its extremely traumatizing especially when they lack empathy and can't take accountability. so yes, run leave them with the silence and freedom they need so much. 10 yrs with a DA and it's been pure hell leave them alone! it does not matter why they do what they do but that they do it in the manner they do. if they are not doing the work don't bother you cannot fix them they have to want to change themselves.

They pretend nothing happened. No repair. They don’t think they have a problem at all. Even if you present it to them

Honestly it’s so hard to let these relationships go because they’re usually not bad people and they do show a lot of love and closeness.. the down side to that is when they do open be ready to not hear from them for days/weeks.. and live your own life 🫠

It’s not the attachment that’s the problem it’s their capacity that’s the issue. The lack of willingness to repair can disrupt the nervous system of even the most secure person and the way they can lie to themselves about the realty of situations is wild to me.

I am dating somebody with an avoidant attachment style, and I am an anxious attachment. And it has been a lot to learn, but also very healthy. What I can say for myself is that being with and avoidant actually helps me regulate my own anxiousness. Because I know that when she hits these points to where she has to regulate herself, I remind myself that this has nothing to do with our relationship. If she wanted to leave, she will talk to me about it. She’s dealing with something and when she’s able to come back, she will. It allows me to not overthink the situation and this opens up the space for her to go through what she needs to go through to come back to herself and then us. So I absolutely love this video. It was explained beautifully.
