musicians — booking the wrong room is almost as bad as not booking at all. here is exactly how to find the venues that actually make sense for where you are right now. OPEN YOUR SPOTIFY FOR ARTISTS FIRST before you book a single show you need to know where your real listeners actually are. your Spotify for Artists data shows you exactly which cities your music is reaching. those are the cities where a show has a real chance of drawing people who already know your name. do not book in cities where you have no data. book where the data already exists and let the show build on top of the momentum that is already there. RESEARCH WHERE ARTISTS IN YOUR GENRE ARE PLAYING go to the Instagram and TikTok pages of artists at a similar level in your genre and look at where they are playing. those venues are already booking artists like you and they understand your audience. if the artists on a venue’s calendar sound nothing like you that is a fit problem and fit problems lead to bad shows and no rebooking. JOIN DIY AND LOCAL MUSIC FACEBOOK GROUPS search Facebook for DIY music in your city, independent music your city, local music scene your city, or house shows your city. these groups are where grassroots booking actually happens. artists post looking for show swaps. venues post looking for openers. promoters post looking for talent. show up genuinely and engage before you ask for anything. LOOK BEYOND TRADITIONAL VENUES coffee shops, record stores, art galleries, brewery taprooms, bookstores, rooftops, and community spaces all host live music and most of them are significantly more accessible for independent artists building their live presence from the ground up. these spaces often have built in foot traffic and a ready audience that was already there before you started playing. USE BANDSINTOWN AND SONGKICK FOR VENUE DISCOVERY search artists in your genre and at your career stage on both platforms and look at where they are playing in the cities you want to reach. this gives you a live current map of the rooms already booking independent artists with a similar sound and audience. add your own shows to both platforms while you are there — both automatically notify your fans when you add dates. FIND LOCAL PROMOTERS AND TALENT BUYERS ON INSTAGRAM look for the name on local event flyers and show announcements. find the people tagging venues in your city in their posts. reach out with a genuine compliment about their work before you ever ask for anything. the music industry runs on relationships and the promoter who knows your face before you pitch them is a completely different conversation than a cold email with no context. GO TO SHOWS IN THE ROOMS YOU WANT TO PLAY introduce yourself to the staff, the talent buyer, the promoter. be a real presence in the scene before you send a pitch email. the talent buyer who sees you at three shows before you pitch them is already a warm lead. the cold email from someone they have never seen in the room is a long shot. the right room is not always the biggest room. it is the room your audience is already in or the room that attracts an audience that would love your music if they heard it. find that room first. fill it. then go bigger. follow @goldengodmedia for more free game every single day and share this with an artist who has been trying to figure out how to get booked. #diymusic #musictok #indiemusic #musicindustry #livemusic
