i agree with you to a point, but i think rejecting the material world is where the argument becomes questionable. the only thing i can actually encounter is this the body, the world around me, the present moment. to reject all of that for something beyond it, something i can't establish that i'll ever experience, risks becoming another form of ignorance. and this is where i'd want you to hear nietzsche before dismissing the material. he was deeply suspicious of philosophies that teach us to despise the body and treat this life as merely a passage toward some “higher” reality. in *thus spoke zarathustra*, he writes: “i am body entirely, and nothing beside; and soul is only a word for something in the body.” so if we spend our lives rejecting the body, its needs, pleasures, limitations, and the world immediately available to us because we imagine a purer existence beyond it aren't we just circling back to the old hatred of the body? i'm not saying the material world is all there is. i'm saying i'd be careful about sacrificing the only reality i can presently know for an afterlife i cannot presently verify. i'd genuinely want to hear your response to this after you've heard nietzsche's argument against despising the body.
