@chillin.with.my.h: 🫙 WHY DO YOUR CANNING JARS TURN CLOUDY? And can vinegar help? 👀 Ever pull your jars out of the canner and notice they look cloudy or have a white film inside? Don’t panic! It doesn’t necessarily mean your food went bad. ❤️ Cloudy jars can happen for several reasons: ✨ Hard water – Minerals in your water can leave a white, chalky film on the outside of your jars or canner. ✨ Minerals from the food – Some foods can release minerals or starches into the liquid, making it look cloudy. ✨ Residue on the jars – Soap, food residue, or minerals left behind can become more noticeable after processing. ✨ Certain ingredients – Starches, proteins, and other natural compounds can sometimes make the liquid appear hazy. 🍎 So where does vinegar come in? Adding a splash of vinegar to the water in your water-bath canner can help prevent hard-water mineral deposits from forming on the outside of your jars. A common trick is adding about 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the canner water. The acidity helps keep those minerals from sticking to your jars. ⚠️ Important: Vinegar in the canner water is mainly for preventing mineral deposits on the outside of your jars. It doesn’t guarantee that the food inside won’t become cloudy. And if the food itself is cloudy, vinegar isn’t a magic fix, that can have a completely different cause. 🫙✨ SAVE THIS TIP for your next canning day!
