(1) I appreciate the clarity on which definition of free will is being used. (2) Just because it is the case that ceteris paribus you will choose coffee, it does not follow you could not have chosen tea. Indeed all that’s required of the libertarian account is that you *could* have chosen otherwise, not that you would have.

its me hi! :
the thing is, i had this crisis about determinism just moments ago, but at the end of the day (literally) i still am thinking about what i want to eat for dinner, what games i want to play, what homework i want to finish. hypothetically speaking, if an algorithm were to dissect my whole entire body and upbringing up to that point, it'd probably know what I'd choose. i guess the point is, yeah, me choosing anything probably isn't free will technically, but the feelings you had when you 'chose' those things were still real tho... even if you technically didn't choose it lmaoo . the other stuff that i also had a crisis on is box universe where the past, present, and the future exists at the same time. but i won't elaborate on that👁️

you start you video by saying that you will use the "most widely accepted and comprehensive definition of freewill" , and then proceed to share the definition of libertarian free will. is that what most people would mean when they say "free will"? maybe, but that doesn't make it the most comprehensive definition, and since we're tackling a very heavy philosophical topic, shouldn't you be evaluating how "comprehensive and widely accepted" a definition according to the experts on the subject matter, i.e philosophers? . if you subscribe to the libertarian definition of free will, then of course you will believe that humans do not have it if you believe in determinism. but most philosophers don't and ascribe to compatibilism (59%), which posits that free will and determinism are compatible (hence the name), likely because they ascribe to one of the other 2 definitions you mentioned in the beginning and then promptly ignored. . your argument is circular: if you believe in determinism and the define free will by the libertarian definition, then by necessity free will doesn't exist. I don't think there's anything particularly interesting in that reasoning because it's a trivial conclusion to have from the premises.

m curious how a deterministic world would function practically. Should we imprison criminals/murderers for something that is predetermined and completely out of their control?Would it be just to punish someone for actions they can’t choose otherwise? How would morality work in a world without free will?As individuals would lack the capacity to choose option A or B, they cannot be held morally accountable for any of their action. Even if u claim to act as if we have free will(which may be necessary to maintain justice), the question still lies that if a person genuinely had 0 control over their actions, how would u justify him deserving blame/punishment

I soooo agree with you. I have been saying that for a long time. I had to escape from a war in my country, and had two options, stay and get killed for sure, or escape, and lose EVERYTHING we had. I didn't want either, so I chose life, and becoming a refugee. I don't consider that decision my FREE WILL, because, I haven't chosen that war either...thus, out of the window was my free will.

Before I was even born, so much about my identity had already been decided for me. I was assigned the word woman before I could understand it or choose whether it My religion was written down at birth before I was capable of believing questioning or consenting to it

The existence of mental illnesses like schizophrenia shows me free will doesn’t exist. They do not choose to see things or hear voices. None of us choose any of the many things that happen to us neurologically. We are just taught morality and either have the ability to resist our urges or we don’t. I’m sure most alcoholics and drug addicts would choose not to be addicts but they simply can’t. It’s not a matter of will.

The Arthur Schopenhauer view is the correct in my opinion: “A man can do as he will, but not will as he will”. Tho randomness should also be considered as you said not an absolute stance on determinism.

Yes predetermined factors applies like weather, location etc etc but ultimately who chooses to do a specific action? It is you and only you

Yall talk too much bout incomprehensibly incompatible stuff like meaning of life and free will when its completely counterintuitive and its ontological suicide to treat existence like that.

according to your logic, i am physically programmed to disagree with you right now and you were chemically forced by your dna to upload this video. no one is choosing anything, no one can learn and no one can consciously change their perspective. so if free will doesn’t exist, why are you trying to convince people to change their minds?

the discussion about free will is actually one about causality, if there exists a sufficient reason neccessitating every outcome then the isnt free will, if reality is probabilistic then free will doesnt exist, if there might not exist sufficient reasons to neccessitate an agents actions then free will exists

Anderson Moshi :
There is no actual "free will" anyway, humans are overwhelmingly victims and products of circumstances outside of their control. Nobody asks to be born in the first place or chooses their location of birth, economic class, cultural upbringing, external life pressures and experiences which forges identity, region of the world they come from, dominant social culture, religion brought up in, their environment and society, gods taught about, genetic predispositions, innate intelligence, inherited mental issues and diseases from family...etc, all this has been studied for decades and decides ones development, direction and destiny.
